Mexico Poll Favorite Faces ‘Hate Messages’ After Journalist’s Number Leaked

Mexico City — The front-runner in Mexico’s upcoming presidential election said Saturday she was being inundated with hate-filled calls and messages after her phone number was released online.

The privacy violation for Claudia Sheinbaum comes days after the incumbent, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, revealed the phone number of a journalist investigating his entourage’s alleged drug cartel links.

Sheinbaum, candidate for the ruling left-wing party, posted on X, formerly Twitter, that she was being deluged with “calls and hate messages because someone published my cell phone number on social networks.”

“What they want to do is obvious, once again their attacks are as crude as they are harmless,” she said, adding that she would change her phone number.

The former Mexico City mayor faces Xochitl Galvez, from the opposition coalition, and Jorge Alvarez Maynez of the Citizens’ Movement party in the June poll.

Lopez Obrador is barred from running because of Mexico’s one-term limit.

One of the president’s sons, Jose Ramon Lopez Beltran, has also denounced the leak of his private number online.

Lopez Obrador described that leak as “shameful,” and accused his political opponents of being behind it.

On Thursday at a regular press briefing, Lopez Obrador revealed the phone number of a New York Times reporter, along with questions put to him by The New York Times.

The newspaper has reported that U.S. law enforcement officials spent years examining claims that people close to Lopez Obrador took millions of dollars from criminal gangs.

A day later, he denied he had breached data protection regulations, saying, “There can be no law above a fundamental principle which is freedom.”

The New York Times described the incident as “a troubling and unacceptable tactic from a world leader at a time when threats against journalists are on the rise.”

Mexico’s National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection said that it would investigate whether the disclosure broke the law.

Iran: US-British Strikes on Yemen ‘Escalate Tensions’

Tehran, Iran — Iran on Sunday condemned the latest strikes by the United States and Britain on Yemen, saying they were seeking to “escalate tensions and crises” in the region.

On Saturday, American and British forces carried out fresh strikes against 18 Houthi targets in Yemen, in response to a wave of attacks by the Iran-backed group on Red Sea shipping.

“With such attacks, America and Britain seek to escalate tensions and crises in the region, and expand the scope of war and instability,” Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani said in a statement.

“Certainly, this kind of arbitrary and aggressive military operation, aside from aggravating insecurity and instability in the region, will not achieve anything for these aggressor countries,” Kanani added.

He further condemned the United States and Britain for failing to “take immediate and effective action” to stop Israel’s deadly campaign in Gaza.

The Houthis say their attacks on shipping around the Red Sea are in support of Palestinians in war-ravaged Gaza.

Israel’s withering military campaign in Gaza began following the unprecedented October 7 terror attack on southern Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Iran backs Hamas but has denied any involvement in the October 7 attack.

Regional tensions have soared since the war erupted, stoking violence involving Iran-backed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Following the Saturday attacks, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said the U.S. “will not hesitate to take action, as needed, to defend lives and the free flow of commerce in one of the world’s most critical waterways.”

The Houthis’ military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the attacks would continue until “the aggression stops” in Gaza.

The Islamic republic has previously said it sees a “duty” to support what it calls “resistance groups” in the region, but insists they are “independent” in decision and action.

“You will never really see how toxic someone is until you breathe fresher air.” – Unknown. I wanted to start with that quote because it describes toxic personalities perfectly. How many of you have known someone toxic, someone who filled the air with a kind of blight, a feeling of poisonous doom that you knew you had to get away from at some point or another?

And then you do, and you breathe in the fresh, clean, sparking air of normalcy. This could also describe Donald Trump’s four years of terror. In a nutshell, our freedom from toxicity came when we elected President Biden. And the day his name was announced as the winner, millions showed their delight at the escape from toxicity by taking, dancing, and singing, to the streets.

Now Trump is toxic for so many reasons, but certainly, his narcissism and antisocial personality play a huge role. Trump gives away his narcissism every moment of every day. Just take what he said on Saturday.

Trump announced at CPAC that he had tried to give himself — and I’m not making this up, though I wish I were — the Congressional Medal of Honor. Cue the laughter. “I was so brave,” the coward said “I sat with the pilots, the best-looking human beings I’ve ever seen.”

Trump then asked his staff if he was allowed to award himself the Congressional Medal of Honor. Trump apparently begged his staff to let him do it. “I did a very brave thing.”

This man would KISS himself, wouldn’t he, if only he knew how? Alas! Trump says his staff advised him that “it would not be a good thing to do.”Do you mean SOMEONE on staff actually had a bit of brain power? Who knew?

This story sort of reminds me how, when asked what he was thankful,l for on Thanksgiving, Trump said himself.

The Medal of Honor goes to the MOST courageous, people like soldiers and airmen, people who are that rare few, who can and do catch lightning in a bottle, people who accomplish that which seems impossible, people in whose shoes cowards never can walk.

Donald Trump deserves an award, alright — for cowardice. He is the first opposite of courage; he is the villain in the hero story; he is a nothing, a little, unimportant nothing who would not know courage if it walked right by him.
