SCOTUS rejects challenge to FDA’s approval of abortion pill

(NewsNation) — The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday to reject a lawsuit challenging the Food and Drug Administration’s regulation of the abortion medication mifepristone, which has been widely available for more than 20 years.

The court ruled petitioners don’t have standing to challenge the FDA’s approval of the pill and it will continue to allow pills to be mailed to patients without an in-person doctor’s visit.

The ruling is a notable setback for the anti-abortion movement and comes after SCOTUS’ conservative majority overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the opinion for a unanimous court.
