‘They can’t keep doing this’: Cops search for trio of suspects after East New York shooting

Police are searching for three possible suspects after a man was shot in the hand in East New York early on Wednesday morning.

Details of the encounter were not immediately clear, but cops said the victim was shot in the left hand at 5:08 a.m. on March 27 at 570 New Jersey Ave. Paramedics hurried the victim to nearby Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was stable as of Wednesday evening.

According to the NYPD, three men are wanted in connection with the shooting, though they were not able to provide physical descriptions or a possible motive for the shooting. Cops are still canvassing video captured near the scene for details, and said it was unclear if the victim was cooperating with the investigation on Wednesday. The scene of the shooting remained taped off in the hours after the incident as officers searched the area.

“They can’t keep doing this, this area is improving but the same people want to keep it down,” said one local resident, Gloria Henderson. “I hope they stop shooting, I shouldn’t have to walk my daughter to school and see crime scene tape.”

Year-to-date, felony assault has risen 13.4% in the 75th Precinct, where Wednesday’s shooting took place, per the latest NYPD stats — a total of 237 assaults have been reported in the precinct, compared to 209 last year. Shooting incidents, though, are down 21.4%, with 11 shootings reported in the precinct in 2024. Three murders have taken place in the precinct, the same as this time last year.

Brooklyn has seen a spate of gun violence, including gun violence, in recent weeks — earlier this month, four people were killed in the borough in a single weekend, and three teens were shot (two fatally) — between March 19 and 24.
