It’s been years since Walmart Plus launched as a competitor to Amazon Prime. Both subscription services offer free delivery and other perks, including video and music streaming and fuel discounts. The former costs about $40 less per year and has a lower minimum fee for free grocery delivery, while the latter has more robust streaming content and access to Amazon Prime Day

With the deal event coming July 16 and 17, you may wonder which to sign up for beforehand. While it’s true Walmart is planning to hold a competing sale, Amazon Prime Day deals tend to be better in quality and variety.

Both memberships offer value to different customers. Here’s how each one compares when it comes to their major offerings, like grocery delivery and streaming services.

Amazon Prime: You need an Amazon Prime membership to take advantage of the Prime Day and Prime Early Access sales events. The former is coming July 16 and the latter typically lands in October; both offer incredible savings and some of the year’s best deals on tech, home goods, fashion, and more. Learn about the sale in our “What is Prime Day” guide.

Walmart Plus: Members receive early access to Walmart deal events. Though Walmart doesn’t necessarily throw sensational holidays for its promotions, it holds sales during Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day with prices competitive to those of Amazon. In general, Walmart’s deals pale in comparison to those of Amazon, but you can score equally good discounts on major products like gaming consoles, kitchen appliances, tools, and gardening.
