– 🇩🇰 (15 Sept): #Denmark‘s PM Mette Frederiksen called a Russian frigate firing flares at a Danish helicopter part of an intensifying hybrid campaign meant “to intimidate and divide,” and said Europe’s answer was tighter unity and stronger defense.
– 🇪🇺 (15 Sept): #EU‘s Ursula von der Leyen said incidents over Lithuania, Denmark and Poland were “not isolated” but “part of a broader pattern of Russian aggression and provocation against Europe” testing readiness and resolve.
– 🇵🇱 (17 Sept): #Poland‘s PM Donald Tusk said intelligence showed Russia planning “accidental” drone or missile strikes on NATO countries supporting #Ukraine to paralyze the alliance’s response.

– These statements read less like separate reactions and more like a coordinated public signal with one dissenting note, Slovakia.
– It is Europe saying out loud what it has been whispering: the grey zone is the battlefield, and “we didn’t mean to” will not be accepted as an alibi.
– Fico made the real fear visible. If a drone or missile hits NATO soil and Moscow calls it an accident, does Article 5 still mean anything? Most of these leaders answered yes. One answered: not with Slovak troops.
– That remark is the fear the others are trying to pre-empt: that a grey-zone hit would split the alliance. That split is the prize Moscow is hunting.
– Putting unity and Article 5 language on the record at the same time is an attempt to close that gap before a test comes.
