Of all the defendants in the Fulton County criminal probe, Rudy Giuliani is probably the biggest lock for prison this side of Donald Trump. Giuliani was knee deep in Trump’s criminal plot to try to overthrow the Georgia election results. And DA Fani Willis has made clear that Giuliani will not be offered a favorable plea deal even if he does decide to flip on Trump.

Given what else is going on with Giuliani right now, the fact that he’s headed for prison might actually come as a mixed blessing for him. Giuliani is going through bankruptcy and he’s already given up on keeping his New York hime. Now it turns out he’s in danger of losing his Florida home as well. He’s crying that he could end up homeless if he’s forced to sell both his homes. And he may be right.

It’s not just that Rudy is losing his assets through the bankruptcy process. It’s that the bankruptcy won’t wipe away what he owes Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. So Rudy could come out of this with no home to his name and still being about $150 million in debt. That could make it tricky to even find an apartment to rent.

That’s why prison might not actually be the worst thing for Rudy Giuliani at this point. His mind is gone. His health appears to be collapsing. He’s near the end of his life. He’ll never get out of crushing debt. Prison is, if nothing else, free. It’s too bad for Rudy that Willis doesn’t seem inclined to give him a semi-lenient cooperation deal. Right now prison might be the best option Rudy has left.
