Donald Trump just stepped in it

When Sam Bankman-Fried’s bail was revoked this week, it was a reminder that a pattern of infractions will indeed land you in a cell while awaiting trial – even if you’re a high profile billionaire. This brings us to Donald Trump, who got hit with a protective order on Friday and a stern warning that any antics on his part will result in his trial taking place even sooner.

Trump would do well to shut up right about now, before he accelerates his own downfall. Then again, he’s going to be convicted at trial either way, and he’s going to spend the rest of his life in prison, so what does he really have to gain by behaving? To that end, Trump is already out there ranting again. But he appears to have stepped in it.

Trump posted this in part on Truth Social on Saturday: “The Lunatic Left, working closely with Crooked Joe Biden and his corrupt DOJ, is not only focusing on Election Interference, but on getting the Trump Campaign to spend vast amounts of money on legal fees, thereby having less to spend on ads…”

You get the point. This post is not directly in violation of the protective order, which only covers the evidence in the case. But in general terms this is the kind of behavior that the judge warned Trump would only result in a speedier trial. The more Trump tries to turn his trial into a circus, the more quickly he’s going to end up behind bars. And yet Trump just can’t seem to help himself.
