- Jamie Dimon says the US is “too reliant on unreliable sources” for vital minerals and tech.
- JPMorgan launched a $1.5 trillion plan to boost key industries from AI to energy resilience.
- Dimon warned America must “act now” to rebuild economic and national security strength.
Jamie Dimon said the US has become too dependent on foreign suppliers for the materials and technologies that underpin its economy and national security.
“It has become painfully clear that the United States has allowed itself to become too reliant on unreliable sources of critical minerals, products, and manufacturing — all of which are essential for our national security,” the JPMorgan Chase CEO said Monday.
Dimon’s warning came as the bank unveiled a decadelong, $1.5 trillion Security and Resiliency Initiative aimed at strengthening industries crucial to US competitiveness — from critical minerals and advanced manufacturing to energy, defense, and frontier technologies like AI and quantum computing.
The initiative will include up to $10 billion in direct investments to accelerate domestic production and innovation, alongside financing across supply chains and defense infrastructure.
JPMorgan also plans to hire more bankers and create an external advisory council of public and private-sector leaders to guide its efforts.
Dimon said the US needs to “act now” to restore industrial strength, urging policymakers to cut red tape, modernize education, and back investment in strategic sectors.
“America needs more speed and investment,” he said. “Our security is predicated on the strength and resiliency of America’s economy.”
Argentine President Javier Milei Visits Washington to Cement U.S. Alliance
Argentine President Javier Milei arrived in Washington, D.C., on Monday, ahead of a crucial meeting with President Donald Trump scheduled for Tuesday at the White House, aimed at ratifying a strategic alliance following a recent financial bailout agreement, reports 24brussels.
The Argentine delegation comprises Milei’s sister and Presidential Secretary Karina Milei, alongside Ministers Luis Toto Caputo (Economy) and Patricia Bullrich (Security). They will be accommodated at Blair House, the official residence for visiting dignitaries.
The agenda features a meeting in the Oval Office, to be followed by a working lunch with both delegations. This encounter marks a significant moment following Trump’s global diplomatic tour, as he is currently in the Middle East negotiating a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The alliance’s foundation rests on the ideological similarities between the two leaders but comes with substantial U.S. conditions. The Trump administration anticipates Argentina to act as a counterweight to China’s growing influence in Latin America. Specifically, Trump expects Milei to implement a “drastic change” in foreign policy toward Beijing, which includes canceling an $18.5 billion currency swap with the Central Bank of China, rejecting Chinese capital in technology and energy projects, and halting diplomatic engagements with Beijing.
In return, the White House has promised political and economic support, encouraging American businesses to invest in Argentina while actively aiding in the stabilization of Milei’s government ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
Notably absent from Milei’s delegation is Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos, a move attributed to his previous controversial remarks regarding China, which have reportedly undermined his credibility within the U.S. strategic negotiations. Furthermore, Francos’s tensions with U.S. Special Envoy for Latin America Mauricio Claver-Carone have led to his ousting from the presidency of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) after an internal inquiry revealed breaches of ethical standards linked to an undisclosed relationship with a subordinate. At the time, he served as Argentina’s representative at the IDB, holding the position of Executive Director for Argentina and Haiti.
Milei is projected to return to Buenos Aires on Wednesday at 8 a.m.
“Seek to de-risk international economy by forging strong partnerships…” Jaishankar as India-Canada prepare roadmap to advance ties
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand on October 13, 2025, during her inaugural official visit to India. Jaishankar emphasized the need for New Delhi and Ottawa to enhance their relationship comprehensively to de-risk the international economy and foster bilateral cooperation, reports 24brussels.
In the discussions, Jaishankar stated, “We seek to de-risk the international economy today by forging strong partnerships of growing range and depth. Your visit, Ms. Anand, affords an opportunity to review the global scenario and exchange perspectives.” He highlighted the long-standing tradition of India and Canada as proactive participants in global affairs, noting their membership in the G20 and the Commonwealth.
Jaishankar pointed out significant convergences between India and Canada in the Indo-Pacific region, expressing shared support for effective multilateralism, climate action, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda 2030. He revealed that both nations have outlined a comprehensive plan to bolster cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, and technology.
Addressing the media following their talks, Jaishankar remarked on the positive trajectory of India-Canada relations in recent months, committing to restore and enhance mechanisms vital for advancing their partnership. His comments underscored a series of high-level interactions, including recent meetings between national security advisors, trade ministers, and senior officials from both foreign ministries.
The meeting between Jaishankar and Anand coincides with a period of improving diplomatic relations and a mutual initiative to rebuild trust after previous tensions. Jaishankar referenced Prime Minister Modi’s remarks from his June meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Carney, indicating India’s determination to approach the relationship with a constructive outlook.
He also noted the significance of the recent appointments of High Commissioners in both countries, highlighting their role in ensuring diplomatic continuity. “Our responsibility as Foreign Ministers is to shepherd the process of rebuilding our cooperation and to ensure that it delivers on the expectations of our Prime Ministers and the interests of our people,” Jaishankar added.
Moreover, Jaishankar emphasized the shared values and geopolitical alignment between the two democracies. “When we look at Canada, we see a complementary economy, another open society, and a partner that shares India’s values of diversity and pluralism,” he stated. His remarks reflect a commitment to using Anand’s visit as a pivotal moment to assess the shifting global landscape and cultivate a forward-looking agenda for India-Canada relations.
